Island Murter belongs to the group of islands in northern Dalmatia. It is situated near to the place Pirovac in Šibensko-kninska county. The surface of the mainland of the island is 17,58 km2. Except the place Murter, there are three other settlements on the island Murter – Tisno, Jezera and Betina. The population of the island Murter does cattle breeding and fishing and recently many people decide to start tourism and small business. Thanks to the tourism the construction on the island started to increase. The most of the newly built objects are apartments, hotels, restaurants and fast food objects. Small business on the island has developed in the construction of vessels and their maintenance in marinas of Murter – Marina Aci Jezera and Marina Hramina. In the immediate vicinity of the island Murter there is National park Kornati, the group of 89 islands and small islands. Kornati islands are declared a Nacional Park in 1980, their total surface is 220 km2, one fourth of it being the mainland and the rest being the sea ecosystem. It is very interesting that all Kornati islands are the private property of the inhabitants of settlements Murter and Betina.
